GEC Academy’s Sponsorship Ignites Excitement at Budapest Blazing University Handball Championship 2024

On May 8th, 2024, the GEC Budapest University Handball Championship, proudly sponsored by GEC Academy, concluded with great success. As the event’s exclusive sponsor, GEC Academy provided prize sponsorship to celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship and excellence that defined this championship. The competition saw participation from eight teams across five Hungarian partnership universities: four men’s teams and four women’s teams from Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), John von Neumann University (NJE), Óbuda University (ÓE), and Semmelweis University (SOTE). A total of 183 players, comprising 94 women and 89 men, registered for the event. By supporting such events, we aim to foster both competitive and cooperative spirits among the youth, highlighting the integral role of sports in their growth, as well as trying to promote communication and interaction among young people.

Supported by the sponsorship from GEC, teams were able to participate in the championship free of charge, with the top-performing teams receiving cash prizes. The men’s and women’s champion teams shared a total prize pool of €500, with an additional €100 awarded for individual contributions. In the men’s competition, ELTE clinched the top spot, followed by SE, NJE, and ÓE. Almássy Máté from ELTE was named the top scorer. In the women’s competition, ELTE once again emerged victorious, with BME coming in second, NJE in third, and SE in fourth. The standout top scorer, Gólkirálynő, was Sándor Petra from ELTE.

After the championship concluded, we had the opportunity to interview some of the players. “It’s really cool! GEC Academy organized this championship well and it’s truly remarkable how they’ve raised funds to ensure top-notch equipment and resources, allowing teams to compete without worries,” exclaimed Andrea Mészáros, the captain of Team Semmelweis University, as she relished the thrilling sports event. Kiss Szonja, the vigilant goalkeeper of team ELTE, shared her delight, saying, “The cooperation we experienced was priceless, and through this championship, the handball game got popularized, so I am really looking forward to participating in more matches like this!” To hear more from the players, please view the video below.
